You may have heard of an “oral surgeon” before, which these professionals are considered to be dental specialists. Following four years of dental school, they attend an extensive residency program for about four to six years in oral surgery. In fact, oral surgeons are trained on a wide variety of complex cases involving the oral and maxillofacial region whether it is wisdom teeth removal, removing tumors in the jaw, etc. Essentially, these are the professionals that handle the “really difficult stuff” to put it in lamest terms. However, there are general dentists who are also board certified to deliver oral surgery procedures except these cases tend to be much more simpler than what an oral surgeon would complete.
